Cannot wait for the the Indian Film Industry (to be politically correct specially for Big B) to start such events in the future. They would be a big hit for the Indian audience for whom Hindi movies are integral part of their lives.
Social Media v/s traditional media.
Kenya attack: inside the Nairobi shopping mall (by Channel 4 News)
The newspaper industry has been crippled by online news because of it being free, instantly available and from various angles.
Similarly the doom of TV news channels is eminent.
The Kenya mall attack coverage is much better on youtube (if you search for Kenya Mall attack on YouTube) and you can see the actual action that has been uploaded by the users and the TV channels
In fact you do come across some exclusive content that the TV news channels are yet to lay their hands on.
If such is the state of affairs why would I go to TV to get the updates from one channel who will keep playing a couple of minutes of video in a loop for the next 30 minutes?
The TV channels need to wake up and do something about this otherwise their days are numbered.
When you give power to the normal person things like these are bound to happen. It has to be seen though that do such incidents flare up into something big and messy?
Meanwhile this tweet by the Hari Kondabolu took the cake

Can any other media give you the opportunity to market so well that you will get 30 million views in 14 days? - Social Media does.
Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball (Audio) (by MileyCyrusVEVO)
Another instance of social media beating any other media in terms of getting eyeballs.
The famous Miley Cyrus, as if the WMA awards was not enough, released a tantalizing (I’m not too sure if it is tantalizing because little is left to imagination) video for her new song “wrecking wall" which was uploaded on August 25, 2013 and today after 14 days has 10 million views* (yes the video has adverts right at the start which you cannot skip therefore the singer and her promoting company is making money - lots of it).
Again would this has been possible with any other media at such a low cost?
No way. Therefore if you are running a business or marketing yourself and you are not paying attention to social media you are missing a big chunk.
PS* Sorry there was an error in the number of views. There are two different uploads of the video for the song and their combined total views are 30 million!
Jimmy Kimmel Reveals “Worst Twerk Fail EVER - Girl Catches Fire” Prank (by Jimmy Kimmel Live)
The power of social media.
This video was created and put up by Jimmy Kiemmel (for those who do not know he is a famous TV host in the US).
The video was shot and put on TV 2 months back and there was no effort on anyone’s end to market it or share it on the social media.
Over the period of 2 months it got 9 million views! Finally Jimmy revealed that the video was a hoax on his show last night.
Imagine you putting out a message on YouTube about your business but remember it has to be unique and scandalous and your business getting 9 million views. I cannot see any other media beating these numbers.
Which web services will let you delete your account easily and others that will not let you delete your account unless you make a certain effort like getting in touch with them personally.
Social media helping in getting justice!
Interesting analysis of how CEO’s of big companies use social media. Social media sites most used by CEO’s to least used are as follows
- LinkedIn (did you have any doubts?)
- Google+ (surprisingly there are very few there)
Another fact that was interesting was of the 2 million followers of CEO’s accounts on Twitter were fake profiles. Are the CEO’s buying followers?
