I’m sure you have come across websites which have valuable information and you wish the content was available offline. This is possible. I have been using HTTrack for more than 7 years and it has never failed me. It is a free software and you can download HTTrack here

Why review HTTrack now?

One of the reasons I wanted to share this information was that I was delighted to see that a new version HTTrack (3.44-1) has been released in February 2011. There are many applications which I adore but they have been abandoned by the developers but this is a piece of code that has not been abandoned and it is great.

Features of HTTrack

  • You can download the local directory and HTTrack builds recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer

  • Once you have downloaded the site you can update it whenever you feel more content has been added to the website

  • Pause and résumé while archiving the website is possible

  • You can set the depth of the website to be archived. For example if you want the pages from a certain domain to be backed up only you can define that.

  • There is another similar software Backstreet which seems interesting which I’m going to try.
