With social networks mushrooming your profile picture is the first impression you make on people whom you have not met personally or rarely meet. Therefore it is important to have a perfect profile picture. Ideally you should get a good camera to create a profile picture though most of the high end phones have excellent cameras these days. Rules to follow while taking profile pictures
Close up shots should be preferred.
Smiling shots are always better (check the slideshow above for some unfriendly profile photos.
If you are thinking about using a illustration ensure that is done by a professional and or you should be very good with one of the vector drawing software. Cartoons is a big no no. Very few people are able to get away with cartoon type illustrations without be chided.
Shoot multiple photos at different angles.
Use photo editing software like Photoshop but keep the usage to a bare minimum. There is an interesting video on youtube about creating and using photo editing software for profile pictures.
